American Natural Gas (ANG), a distributor of alternative motor fuels and a portfolio company within HC2 Holdings Inc., has opened a new heavy-duty, fast-fill compressed natural gas (CNG) station in Lynchburg, Va.
The public-access facility, located at 110 Jefferson Ridge Parkway, will also serve PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division, which will fuel its fleet of CNG-powered tractor trailers.
Located within a mile of the intersection of Lynchburg/Northwest Expressway (US-501) and US-221, the new station provides easy on-and-off highway access for Class 8 vehicles, notes ANG.
“As oil prices continue to rise, it becomes more important than ever to make domestic alternative fueling options available to American fleets,” says Drew West, CEO of ANG.
Notably, this is ANG’s first station in Virginia and its second located in close proximity to a Frito-Lay manufacturing facility. ANG currently owns and operates 44 fueling stations in 15 states across the U.S. (including stations under development).
“Delivering products using a more efficient fleet is a key component of achieving PepsiCo’s goal to reduce absolute greenhouse-gas emissions across our value chain, and our Frito-Lay CNG tractor trailers are an important piece of our overall strategy,” says Ken Marko, senior national fleet sustainability manager of PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division. “Having a national infrastructure for alternative fuel is critical to the continued expansion of Frito-Lay’s CNG fleet and for other companies currently using or considering this technology.”
This Lynchburg station includes a 250 HP GE compressor packaged by Cobey Energy with two points of temperature compensation and a Xebec dryer. The station features Bennett CNG dispensers equipped with NGV1 nozzles for light- and medium-duty use and NGV2 nozzles to accommodate heavy-duty and transit vehicles. The fast-fuel station is designed to accommodate high-capacity, large-volume users.
Brent Archer, president of Columbia Gas of Virginia, adds, “As the natural gas service provider for both American Natural Gas and for Frito-Lay’s Lynchburg manufacturing facility, we are pleased to play a part in making this important and environmentally beneficial fuel option available to the public. It’s a great example of the essential and expanding role natural gas plays in the daily lives of virtually all Americans. We look forward to our partnership with ANG and other Columbia Gas customers.”
