New Drive Electric Virginia initiative to increase statewide EV adoption

June 23, 2021

Harrisonburg, VA – A new statewide initiative to increase awareness of electric vehicles (EVs) has officially launched a user-friendly online resource. The Drive Electric Virginia website provides detailed and localized information, working groups, and resources for those interested in learning more about EVs or bringing this technology forward.

Drive Electric Virginia is a collaborative initiative led by Virginia Clean Cities and partnering organizations. This shared effort engages individuals, utilities, legislators, dealerships and other stakeholders toward removing EV adoption barriers and accelerating EV use in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia Clean Cities is a statewide resource available to the Commonwealth as an educator and advisor of fleet transitions from gasoline and diesel to cleaner alternative fuels.

Alleyn Harned, Executive Director of Virginia Clean Cities, stated on EV adoption in the Commonwealth, “The momentum and interest in electric vehicles is building every day because this is fun and exciting emission reducing technology. More and more people want to learn about the benefits of EVs and are getting involved to move the domestic fuel technology forward. This website and initiative brings people and resources together, from charging stations to available grants and rebates for fleets, to introductions to your local EV community.”

As part of a 14 state Drive Electric USA program, is led by East Tennessee Clean Fuels and is partially supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Drive Electric Virginia runs through December 2023. Electrification efforts in the Commonwealth have seen major progress with over 1,000 charging stations and 15,000 EVs on the road, and there’s still a long fun road ahead.

The program also released several social media roles through LinkedInInstagramTwitter, and Facebookand a free library of Virginia electric vehicles at VCC’s Flickr
