100 Best Fleets: Virginia Green Fleets

The National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA), the vehicle fleet industry’s largest membership association, announced their annual Green Fleet Awards winners on August 14, 2023, during the Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference and Expo in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The top fleets included several Virginia Clean Cities stakeholders including:

The Town of Warrenton won a NAFA Green Fleet Rookie of the Year Award. The Town is a leader in hybrid vehicle adoption in their police department with a goal of 100 percent hybrid fleet.

Chesterfield County wins special recognition for the Best Technology Integration Green Fleet Award for 64 propane buses and 42 bi-fuel propane/gasoline vehicles. They also had the first electric school fleet in Richmond area.

Blossman Gas was recognized as 48th best green fleet this year.

The Town of Warrenton also was recognized as 45th best green fleet.

The City of Alexandria was recognized as 42th best green fleet.

The University of Virginia, which has been recognized in past years, was recipient this year at their highest score at 28th best green fleet.

Chesterfield County was also recognized with their highest score yet at 27th best green fleet.

The U.S. Air Force which operates numerous facilities in Virginia was recognized as the 5th best fleet.

Virginia Clean Cities salutes all of Virginia’s Green Fleets and aspirational fleets. Virginia fleets are advancing clean technology solutions and reducing harmful emissions in their communities.

The top three Green Fleets showcase their commitments towards the use of alternative fuel and hybrid vehicle composition, fuel usage and savings, purchasing policy, long-range planning, and community outreach. According to NAFA, the Green Fleet Awards recognizes various government and commercial fleet organizations in North America who execute groundbreaking and ingenious green initiatives. Applicants are required to respond to a comprehensive set of criteria that embodies the challenges and requirements of fleet professionals.
