This week, the company was pleased to announce a new partnership with U.S. Gain, a company known for its leadership in the development and distribution of renewable natural gas (RNG) for the transportation and energy markets.
RNG is byproduct waste and can be sourced from landfills, livestock operations and wastewater treatment plants. When these biogases are not used in the creation of RNG, they are often harmfully flared or off-gassed releasing methane, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases directly into the atmosphere. By capturing these gases, RNG as an energy source makes for a win-win situation for organizations seeking to meet their sustainability goals. Ingevity and U.S. Gain will demonstrate the use of RNG with the adsorbed natural gas (ANG) model for light-duty pickup trucks as a sustainable solution for fleets. ANG is a low-pressure, bi-fuel solution for light-duty vehicles such as pickup trucks, SUVs and service vans. In this process, natural gas adsorbs to (sticks to the surface of) a porous adsorbent at low pressure. Truck fleets typically consume large amounts of energy in the form of traditional fuels like diesel and gasoline. With the use of RNG in the ANG model, fleets can significantly reduce their emission output.
In recent years, Ingevity’s ANG bi-fuel vehicle and fueling solution has been used by utility fleets across the country, allowing for cost efficiencies, increasing fleet productivity and reducing greenhouse gases. With this initiative, Ingevity will further explore the use of RNG in four Ford F-150 pickup trucks modified to incorporate ANG technology.
