Statement on the Passing of U.S. Representative McEachin

November 29, 2022

Virginia Clean Cities (VCC) staff and board members would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family, staff and constituents of U.S. Representative A. Donald McEachin on his recent passing.

As a longtime public servant for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation, Representative McEachin served as a role model to us all. He demonstrated unwavering advocacy for families and underserved communities.

He always pursued an unflinching and actionable view toward resolving our climate and energy challenges using reason and social benefit as his guideposts. He cared and worked with purpose and consistency in his service for a better world for this and future generations. His loss is felt by the 4th Congressional District, the Commonwealth, the nation, and the planet.

The Representative’s work with the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and House Committee on Natural Resources grounded his expansive roles in numerous energy, equity, and environmental caucuses.

His time in Congress will be most fondly remembered by his constituents and colleagues for exemplifying ongoing allyship, unfailing compassion, dedication to servant leadership, and equity for all.

Among his many accolades, Representative McEachin was recognized by VCC with the 2018 Fueling Clean Transportation Award, which recognized his longtime public leadership in carbon reduction within the transportation sector.

“I am lucky to have been a witness to this work and deeply changed forever by the positive energy and wisdom he shared with us all,” said Alleyn Harned, VCC’s Executive Director.

We will miss his intellect, sense of humor, and his energy.
