In January 2024, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $622.57 million in grant funding for the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program to 47 applicants. These awards go to entities that are strategically deploying publicly accessible EV charging and alternative fueling infrastructure.
“Virginia Clean Cities commends all communities and technology providers for their collaboration and engagement with DOT on this program,” said Alleyn Harned, VCC’s Executive Director. “This program from DOT provided beneficial awards and has wide geographic reach. We should be proud of everyone who submitted applications.”
This CFI Funding made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) will build 38 new EV charging ports in Henrico County, Virginia, and lay the groundwork for future EV projects. Virginia’s two Senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, commented on the importance of this effort in Virginia and throughout the nation.
“Electric vehicles have enormous potential to limit air pollution and cut carbon emissions, but we need widespread, accessible charging infrastructure so even more Virginians can make the switch,” said the Senators. “We’re thrilled the bipartisan infrastructure law is expanding EV charging capacity in Henrico County, and we will continue working to make it affordable and convenient for Virginians to choose electric vehicles and other clean energy solutions.”
Senators Warner and Kaine have long supported clean energy and clean transportation efforts. The CFI Funding represents a portion of the $7.5 billion authorized by the BIL to build EV charging stations across the nation.
