On February 8th, 2024, Virginia Clean Cities staff joined partners EVNoire, Drive Electric RVA, Generation 180 and more for Electric Vehicle (EV) Day at the Capitol in Richmond. Representatives from the NAACP, AAA Mid-Atlantic, Virginia State University, Virginia Commonwealth University and environmental organizations also joined the public event. Local EV club Drive Electric RVA organized a vehicle demonstration with ride-alongs just outside the State Capitol grounds. EVs on display included a Ford F-150 Lightning, a Kia EV6 and two Teslas.
The event served as a statewide kickoff for a new initiative from EVNoire called “Electrifying Virginia.” With a new website full of resources, events and news, the initiative has plans for activities all over the Commonwealth in the coming months, including the Virginia International Auto Show and Earth Day.
Speakers included Dr. Shelley Francis, managing partner of EVNoire, two state senators, local organizers and more. EV driver Jamala Massenberg spoke about her experience driving cross country and using current EV charging infrastructure. She shared the many benefits of EV driving such as little or no maintenance, ride comfort and emissions free driving.
Members of EVNoire answered questions about e-mobility from the public during the vehicle demonstration. The event was well-attended and included light refreshments at the conclusion. In the afternoon members of the Electrifying Virginia delegation visited with legislators in the newly renovated General Assembly Building. Overall, EV Day at the Capitol was an electrifying success!
