Electric vehicle sales in Virginia continued their rapid acceleration in Virginia in 2023. Registration data compiled by Atlas Public Policy and their AtlasEV Hub for Virginia in 2023 continues to show the growing interest and acceptance of electric vehicles throughout the Commonwealth. In 2023, Virginia had 97,563 battery electric (BEV) or plug-in electric hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) on the road. This is a a 49% increase from the 65,000 BEVs and PHEVs registered in Virginia in 2022.
Of these vehicles, 72,886 are fully battery electric. This represents a 52% increase from the total number of BEVs registered in 2022. Virginians in every region of the state are discovering the benefits and joys of owning electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles and the pace of adoption shows no signs of slowing down.
