Project Share Your eNroute Charge (Project SYNC) led by Dominion Energy Virginia, Virginia Clean Cities, Bay Transit, Jaunt, and Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, will support the City of Charlottesville and surrounding counties and Northern Neck region, in creating a community-driven model for EV charging deployment that will support access, resilience and integrated operations. This project will support the goals of tackling the climate crisis and ensuring access to economic, environmental and other advantages for disadvantaged communities, ultimately enhancing the infrastructure, U.S. competitiveness and quality of life.
Project Goal:
The primary goal of Project SYNC is to create, evaluate, and test a business model for installing enroute EV chargers dedicated to transit agency vehicles like Bay Transit and Jaunt while also making them available to the general public. This initiative aims to expand clean mobility options for residents in areas served by Bay Aging housing and Jaunt ridership, enhancing their access to essential services such as healthcare, childcare, employment and other social services. Additionally, the project seeks to ensure reliable and affordable access to EV charging for both transit agency fleets and the public.
This innovative endeavor will be realized through a public/private partnership, and it aims to address several key questions:
- Reservation and Restriction Capabilities
- Affordable Access Pricing
- Optimal Charging Locations
- Additional Benefits and Barriers
- Cost-Effectiveness
By addressing these crucial questions through thorough assessment, development, and testing, Project SYNC aims to establish a successful and replicable model that not only benefits transit agencies like Bay Transit and Jaunt but also improves the quality of life for residents by providing them with reliable, affordable, and accessible EV charging options.
