The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $15 million, subject to appropriations, to support community-based projects to accelerate the adoption of advanced and alternative fuel vehicles and demonstrate energy-efficient mobility systems, including connected and autonomous vehicles, as well as new transportation system models.
The DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy seeks highly leveraged “Alternative Fuel Vehicle Community Partner Projects” that will significantly accelerate the use of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles that operate on fuels such as biodiesel, electricity, E85, hydrogen, natural gas, and propane, in addition to the fueling infrastructure needed to support them.
Led by community-based partnerships between state and local governments and key private sector stakeholders, these projects will help catalyze alternative fuel use nationwide through the collection and sharing of best practices and lessons learned, the DOE says.
In addition, the department seeks highly innovative “living lab” demonstration projects that integrate smart mobility technologies in a holistic approach to the movement of people and/or goods that maximizes energy efficiency.
Virginia Clean Cities is interested in working with stakeholders on a new funding opportunity from the U.S. Department of Energy Vehicle Technologies office. We are writing to get your help on a program to accelerate the development and adoption of sustainable transportation technologies in highly leveraged community based alternative fuel vehicle deployment project.
In the first area of interest for this program, up to $10 million in funding is available nationwide for partial funding of infrastructure and for the partial funding of incremental cost of new OEM level vehicles. Cost match form our team of at least 1:1 is needed for this program. New mobility projects are desired. We need to iron down our project concept within the month of January, and will have final submission near the end of March.
The project we envision will catalyze the deployment of alternative fuel vehicles and infrastructure throughout Virginia and the larger region, with a strong corridor backbone from Northern Virginia, through Richmond, and Hampton Roads. Virginia produces no oil and fuels like natural gas, propane, electricity, and biofuels all suit regional need.
We will comprehensively plan, capture data and present case studies.
