Being prepared for emergencies is more essential than ever. Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on the East Coast back in 2012, and the current hurricane season has also been devastating. Vulnerable coastal regions in the southeast were hit with powerful storms that flooded communities and cut electric power and gasoline/diesel fuel supplies. But early reports from both Texas and Florida included numerous examples of how alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) and infrastructure proved to be reliable and resilient throughout the disasters. MotorWeek has produced an expanded segment on AFVs and emergency preparedness, titled Emergency Alternatives, that will start airing on PBS stations nationwide on October 14, 2017. For show times in your area, check the MotorWeek and Discovery Channel websites. MotorWeek is also available in high definition on Velocity by Discovery.
This segment will include highlights of AFVs at work during Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, as well as Superstorm Sandy. In addition, the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) has been working hard to enable states to include alternative fuels in their emergency preparedness plans, and this is also highlighted.
Please share this alert with your Clean Cities stakeholders, set your DVRs, and plan to watch! We will also post the segment on the AFDC in the near future.
