The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is now accepting applications to fund all-electric projects to reduce air pollution and mitigate climate change through the new Clean Air Communities Program. Through this competitive grant process, DEQ will award $20 million to government entities from its share of the Volkswagen Mitigation Trust.
The program is open to state, local and tribal government entities to support public projects that replace medium and heavy duty diesel vehicles with all-electric vehicles. Funds may also be used to repower marine and locomotive engines, and to replace fossil fuel burning equipment at airports.
Applications must be received by Jan. 11, 2021.
Webinars for potential applicants will be held on Oct. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. Register for the Oct. 21 webinar here or the Nov. 12 webinar here.
