DEQ Community Meetings: Virginia’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant

December 1, 2023
From the DEQ

The urgency to address climate change has never been more palpable, and Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is taking proactive steps toward a sustainable future. With a mission to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the state, DEQ is calling on communities to actively participate in shaping a strategic climate action plan.

Throughout December, Virginia DEQ is hosting a series of community meetings across the Commonwealth, aiming to tap into the collective wisdom of residents, stakeholders, and experts. These gatherings are scheduled at various dates and times to ensure broad participation, fostering diverse perspectives and innovative ideas.

What’s truly exciting is that the initiatives proposed during these meetings will have the opportunity to vie for a portion of the $4.3 billion implementation fund. This fund serves as a beacon of hope, providing tangible support for actionable projects that demonstrate promise in reducing emissions.

For those eagerly anticipating additional community meetings, DEQ assures the announcement of dates for gatherings in the Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads, and Richmond regions in the near future. This statewide initiative aims to ensure comprehensive representation and engagement from all corners of Virginia, recognizing the diverse environmental challenges and opportunities that each region faces.

Stay tuned for updates on meeting dates and locations, and be sure to take part in the survey tool to contribute your thoughts and ideas. Let’s join hands to make a difference in combating climate change in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
