This week Dominion Energy announced that they would be supporting the Clean School Bus Program managed by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) by proving an electric school bus fast-charging solution to school districts that are located within the Dominion Energy service territory at no additional cost to the school districts. Through this offering, Dominion Energy will pay for the approved Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capable fast chargers, the networking costs and all costs associated with the installation of these chargers. As part of this agreement, Dominion Energy will be permitted to utilize the batteries for V2G when the buses are not being used for their primary purpose, which is safe pupil transportation. At the end of the useful life of the bus, which is typically 15-years, Dominion Energy will take ownership of the batteries and use them in a second-life battery storage application.
Dominion has entered into this partnership as they believe it will provide school districts with fast chargers that will maximize the benefits of electric school buses while allowing Dominion Energy to use stored energy to increase gird resiliency as we continue to add more renewable energy to the system.
You can find more information and apply to the Clean School Bus Program here. Applications are due by Friday, June 25th at 5 pm.
