FREDERICKSBURG – The City of Fredericksburg has installed an Electric Vehicle charging station in the downtown garage that is available to the public at no cost.
The Level 2 charging station is located on the top level of the Sophia Street Parking Garage at 600 Sophia St. The station – a Schneider Electric EVlink basic model – can provide a top-off charge in less than three hours and a full charge in less than six hours.
“We invite visitors to explore our wonderful downtown while they charge their electric vehicles,” said Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw. “The garage is free for the first three hours and only $1 an hour after that, so it’s possible to get a full charge at an extremely low cost while dining, shopping and enjoying our historic downtown.”
The charging station is consistent with the goals, recommendations and priorities of the recently adopted Parking Action Plan and City Council Vision. The latter’s priorities include environmental protection, cutting-edge transportation solutions and a top-tier tourism operation. “We think the charging station is consistent with all those priorities and more,” Greenlaw said. “We hope the public will enjoy this great new amenity in downtown Fredericksburg.”
