Grants for Low or No Emission Bus Programs Now Open

Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO): Project Proposals for the Low or No Emission Grant Program and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced the opportunity to apply for $1,103,963,762 in competitive grants. 

The available programs are as follows:

5339(c) Low or No Emission Grant Program: This program aims to support the transition of the nation’s transit fleet to the lowest polluting and most energy-efficient vehicles. It provides funding for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses, as well as the acquisition, construction, and leasing of required supporting facilities.

5339(b) Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program: This program assists in financing buses and bus facilities capital projects, including replacing, rehabilitating, purchasing, or leasing buses or related equipment, and rehabilitating, purchasing, or leasing bus-related facilities.

Application Process:

  1. Submission: Proposals must be submitted electronically through the Grants.Gov website. Applicants can apply to either program or both.
  2. Webinars: FTA will host two webinars to provide information to potential applicants. The first webinar, a general session, will be held on February 22, 2024, and the second, with a focus on rural and tribal applicants, will be held on March 5, 2024.
  3. Supplemental Form: All applicants must complete a supplemental form and attach it to their submission in Grants.Gov.

Who is eligible? States, local governmental authorities, and Indian Tribes for the Low-No Program, and designated recipients that allocate funds to fixed-route bus operators, states, or local governmental authorities that operate fixed-route bus service, and Indian tribes for the Buses and Bus Facilities Program.

Proposals are due by 11:59 PM ET April 25, 2024.
