VDOT announced on Wednesday, Sep. 28, that the Federal Highway Administration has approved the Virginia Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan! The plan is required for VDOT’s participation in the federal NEVI Program (funded through the Infrastructure and Jobs Act). VDOT additionally had guidance from the Secretary of Transportation’s office, stakeholders, and other members of the public.
The plan provides VDOT with access to $36 million in initial funding to construct public Direct Current fast charging stations for Virginia’s EV drivers! To meet NEVI’s requirements, VDOT will focus on upgrading and building new charging stations in current gaps along Virginia’s existing Alternative Fuel Corridors.
VDOT will be releasing a Request for Information to assist in the development of a competitive funding opportunity for the construction of stations, which will be posted on the Virginia eProcurement Marketplace.
