The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is now accepting applications to fund all-electric projects to reduce air pollution and mitigate climate change through the new Clean Air Communities Program. Through this competitive grant process, DEQ will award $20 million to government entities from its share of the Volkswagen Mitigation Trust.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act program has started accepting applications for rebates in assisting the replacement of decrepit school buses with new, greener alternatives. With over $10 million to award, the EPA will select fleets who scrap and replace their diesel buses. Rebate amount is determined by replacement fuel type, ranging between $20,000-$65,000 per bus. Fleets will not be awarded for more than 10 buses, but can submit two ...

State agencies and local governments in current or former specific air quality non-attainment, ozone attainment and/or maintenance areas may be reimbursed for incremental costs to transition to alternative fuels such as electric, natural gas or propane autogas.  Agencies are encouraged to apply.  Reimbursements are up to an average of $10,000 for the incremental cost of new vehicles or reasonable aftermarket conversions.

Funding is currently available through June 30, 2021.

Three new Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles released for public fleets

The Climate Mayors EV Purchasing Collaborative just announced the release of their newest PHEV vehicles: Toyota RAV4 Prime, 2021 Toyota Prius Prime, and 2021 Chrysler Pacifica! The Smart Charging Infrastructure Pilot (or “SCIP”) Program supports electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Virginia and will inform the design of managed charging programs and other EV customer offerings in the future.

The SCIP Program will provide rebates for qualifying EV charging stations, charging infrastructure and installation, commonly referred to as “make-ready,” and network fees. See rebate amounts in the table below.
